Tumul K’in Center of Learning Tuition Project

The Tumul K’in Center of Learning is a non-government high school located in Blue Creek Village, Toledo District, Belize.  TKCL was conceived as an idea from several Maya leaders in Belize as a means of synthesizing traditional Maya practice and values with a contemporary high school education.  At TKCL students live on campus and participate in a curriculum ranging from Math, Science and Computers to traditional teachings in Agriculture, Maya Crafts, Mayan Language, Maya History and many other topics.  Students at TKCL receive a unique knowledge which fosters a respect and reverence for the traditional Maya culture which is threatened by the encroaching border of modernity in Belize.

The Initiative’s Jeff Frank has spent two years living and teaching at Tumul K’in and has fostered a partnership with the school and The Initiative to collect donated funds to help with student tuition costs.  Students attend classes at TKCL for an entire year for just $90 USD.  That tuition offers students, transportation, housing, 3 meals a day, books and classes.  Although the price of tuition is the lowest in the country for a high school education, some students simply cannot afford to attend.

Please take the time to consider if you would like to donate funds through The Initiative to be donated directly to the Tumul K’in Center of Learning’s Student Tuition Fund to help make a high school education available to more students.  To donate click on “Support A Project” and make your paypal donation.
